Reaching out to those who are less fortunate is a key element of the Christian life. In the scriptures, Our Lord says “Sell all your belongings and give the money to the poor” (Luke 12 v 33). St John Chrysostom says “Failing to give to the poor some of what we possess is the same as robbing and depriving them of life; for the things that we are withholding from them belong to them, not to us”. The scripture and this Father of the Church give us a very clear mandate for the work that we are called to do both within our Orthodox community and in the wider community.
- Monthly food packs for those in need, both Orthodox and non-Orthodox. At Christmas a special appeal is made to ensure that as many families as possible are assisted. Last Christmas saw the Parish assisting 100 families.
- Financial support for parish members who may struggle to meet the costs of education at all levels.
- Clothes and blankets for periodic distribution.
- Donations of non-perishable foodstuffs are also welcome.
A collection is taken up on the third Sunday of the month to fund these initiatives. If you wish to make a regular donation please make a deposit to the Church bank account as follows:
